Welcome to another Sweet Sixteen Sunday!
This week I wanted to show you how I use rulers with my free motion quilting, so I have used a wave ruler from Handi Quilter to create a stem and then I did some free motion feathers.
I love how this creates a uniform and even look to my feathers but they still look free and flowy... does that make sense... because I do the feathers free motion, I don't have the rigid look of the stencil.
So grab a cuppa and I hope you enjoy this weeks HQ Sweet Sixteen.

Thank you for the video! I purchased my Sweet Sixteen 8 months ago and recently purchased my first couple of rulers last month at the AQS quilt show. I'm practicing with them and hope to get as good as you are! That freehand feather was fabulous! I think I probably need to get the overlay as well. Thanks again!

ReplyDeleteYour video couldn't have come at a better time for me. (Or rather my finding it.) I only acquired my Sweet Sixteen a few weeks ago and have been frustrated by using rulers because of the wobble caused by the gap. Not sure why they would have designed the table with such a gap.
My question to you is, nearly seventeen months after making the video, how do I fund one of the table overlay. I can't seem to find one.
Hi Tige,
DeleteThanks so much for your comment :)
I believe the difference in height at the needle is so that there is a small amount of tension created. This helps to ensure that there is no pleats in the back of your work.
The table overlays are available from any Handi Quilter Dealer. I would give your local dealer a call first in case they have to order it in :)

Thank you Paula
ReplyDeleteI have emailed the Penrith store more than 24 hrs ago but still no answer. Might have to ring them tomorrow. Thanks for your response.
If your in the Sydney area the Rosehill show is on the weekend after next (from the 3rd of March 2016). You would be able to order one there from the Handi Quilter booth, they would get one to you asap.

Unfortunately I'm not. I live in country NSW. But I'll phone the Penrith store tomorrow as my husband has to bring his car down to Sydney sometime soon to have a new key coded to his car and Penrith would be the most convenient. I'll have to measure the table cause I don't know if it will fit in the rear boot of the Porsche. My husbands mid life crisis. Second hand. Haha. The literature says the overlay weighs 9 kg so postage would be a bit hefty.
ReplyDeleteOh thats a shame...
DeleteI'm not sure what literature your looking at but the overlay is just a sheet of medium weight plastic so i'm sure it doesn't weigh anywhere near 9kg's... it is large but only the size of your actual table, without any sleeves open. Mine would be lucky to weigh 1 kg.
I'm sure it would fit in the car easily, just try and keep it flat so it doesn't distort in the heat of the car.

Thanks for all your help
